At The Hop

At Nyack Burger Hop our commitment is to deliver simple, but great tasting food in a good times environment reminiscent of decades past, and sorely needed now. The 50's and 60's. Good and simple when people greeted passersby, home was a house in suburbia or places like the Grand Concourse, or Jersey City. You may have met with your friends on the stoop or tar beach, but the family was always back home for dinner, and Sunday's was for Mom and Grandma's house.

Growing up you played ring-a livio, stoop ball with a spalding (spaldeen), skipped rope, wiggled with a hula hoop, and a piece of chalk could create enough games to keep teams of kids busy all day long incliuding hopscotch. Teens hung out on the block till curfew. Some guys took their hot rod crusin’, and others shot hoops in the school yard.

Going out Friday nights meant meeting in a parking lot of your favorite drive in restaurant, or the back booth of a favorite ice cream parlor with a thick shake and your steady, not in a chat room with a stranger. You dropped a quarter in the juke box sharing your favorite tunes, rather than sitting alone at a table for four with a computer and earphones. It's no wonder recent bubble gum movies, retro styled TV shows and musicals like Hairspray, Jersey Boys, Grease and West Side Story are hits yet again. Each takes us back to the good, simple and peaceful times experienced in the youth of the Baby Boomer. We are Baby Boomers. We recall when the best game in town was stickball, played with a stick, ball and a couple of sewer plates. Saturday night at the drive-in-movie, catching a Friday night dance at the Y or CYO, she in her poodle skirt, you in your black pegged pants with the pink saddle stitch. And did you smooch in the balcony with your girl at the Loews, or go Submarine Race Watching? Sure there was the occasional rumble, with a black eye and torn motorcycle jacket, but the tough guy never got his DA messed.

w
Family vacations took us down the shore, walking on or making out under the boardwalk. To the mountains with a bungalow or cabana, and you learned Dirty Dancing, or dancing with Dick Clark on American Bandstand. A special treat was Coney Island and you screamed all the way down the parachute jump, or Palisades Amusement Park where you rode the waves in a giant pool. Post WWII, a time of hope and new beginnings, innocence, penny candy stores, egg creams and mom was always home to greet you. We share memories of these times with our family and friends, and now old enough to tell what Mom and dad never found out about
.....and it wasn't so bad.

Fast forward to high tech, PDA's, high yield returns and get rich quick.
Food is fast, instant or warmed. Dinner is on the run, not with the family unit. Conversations are in sound bites and by the way.....instant gratification takes too long today.

At The Hop let us share with you the burgers, fries and shakes we recall along with the tunes and touches of memorabilia. Stop in often, leave your troubles on the doorstep. Relax, and enjoy your freshly cooked, not mass manufactured food, and feel good when you're on your way.

Nyack Burger Hop is about past times in this time. Pure and simple. Cruise the scene with your cronies, or share your plans and dreams for tomorrow with family and friends old and new at The Hop.

Coming this spring -

Car Hop Service - Cruise on into Nyack Burger Hop with your
top down or your pooch riding shotgun in the truck for exclusive
car hop service for the first time, or to revisit past times with us
at The Hop.

Hop Ice Cream Parlor - Late spring. You scream, I scream, we all scream for ice cream. We will begin a full ice cream parlor menu from cones to banana splits and all the toppings.
